e-books for FE January 2022 newsletter

Happy new year! And welcome to the January 2022 e-books for FE newsletter.

e-books procurement 2022

We are now starting the annual e-books procurement process, and taking a different approach from previous years. Rather than asking library staff to provide us with spreadsheets of wanted titles, we would like your feedback on what you consider to be the high priority areas for you and your teaching colleagues and students, in the following areas:

  1. Subject
  2. Qualification
  3. Awarding body
  4. Level

Please feedback your comments to andrew.jackson@jisc.ac.uk no later than the end of the day on Friday 14 January.

We realise this is a quick turnaround, but want to ensure your views are taken into account in the call-out document that ProQuest will send to publishers on Monday 17th January.

We hope this will remove some of the burdensome time commitments of previous years, particularly for the procurement Focus Group. ProQuest do not ask publishers for specific titles, but for titles which are relevant to the four numbered elements above, so the process will be the same from that point of view. We have already ensured the ProQuest call-out document contains a request for T Level titles (for current courses and those beginning in September) and ESOL titles.

VLR re-design: teaching staff wanted

The FE and Skills Content Team are currently looking at how we might re-design our Vocational Learning Resources and we would like to interview teaching practitioners to better understand what issues and challenges they face when using digital learning content.

We are particularly interested in hearing from teaching staff who teach a subject related to our current Vocational Learning Resources content (e.g. Construction, Digital and IT, Education and Childcare, Hairdressing and Health and Social Care) and use some form digital learning content as part of their teaching practice.

The interviews will take around 30-45 minutes and will take place on Zoom. Please do let your teaching staff know about this opportunity, and for more information please click here: https://feandskillscontent.jiscinvolve.org/wp/2022/01/07/vocational-learning-resources-redesign-project/
