Welcome to the May issue of the Vocational Learning Resources newsletter. This month we’re looking at the new resources on the Virtual Library, the new monthly top users post that will be coming out from June onwards and a very exciting announcement about our Vocational Learning Resources.
Update on our Vocational Learning Resources
We have some exciting news to share! The Vocational Learning Resources are going to become part of Jisc’s core subscription offer so colleges will not be charged for these in the new academic year.
Please note that you will still need a Shibboleth or OpenAthens IdP in order to access them.
There will be a free licence agreement that you will need to sign through the Licence Subscription Manager (LSM) for continued access after the 31st July 2021 but there will be no charge. This will be available by mid-June.
If you have any questions about this, please do contact your Account Manager or contact us at content.feandskills@jisc.ac.uk
New resources on the Virtual Library
For those of you who access the Virtual Library for FE, a new section has been added for the ‘Future Innovators Toolkit’. The curriculum linked resources in this toolkit were designed by the Intellectual Property Office to help teachers of Level 3 STEM subjects get students thinking about the relevance of intellectual property to their lives and future careers. Students will also develop employability and enterprise competencies including creativity, problem solving, communication and working as part of a team.
What’s available?
Two, one hour long lesson plans and case studies to enable students aged 16-18 to explore the relevance of intellectual property (IP) to their lives and future careers. Students are encouraged to discuss the social, ethical and moral implications of IP and the importance of protecting their IP when commercialising their own work.
Monthly top users
From June 2021 onwards, we’ll be posting the top users for our Vocational Learning Resources each month. The top users chart will be available during the first week of the month and will be posted as a separate blog post here on the Jisc FE and Skills Content blog site.
