Welcome to the October issue of our e-books for FE newsletter. The first week of the month has been Shakespearean insofar as it brings to mind the song from Twelfth Night which includes the refrain “The rain it raineth every day.” We hope the start of the new term and student inductions have been going well.
Federated access and e-books mandate
To help improve security standards for our FE members and ensure slick single-sign-on solutions are in place, federated access to e-books for FE will become mandatory from 1st September 2023.

The majority of FE members are using federated access to authenticate into the eBooks collection already: if your college is doing so, just continue as you are.
Please note that Microsoft authentication, including Azure Active Directory, is not currently compliant with federation guidelines and therefore does not meet this mandate.

FE Library Community of Practice
If you are new in post or new to the e-books mailing list, you may not have heard about the FE Library Community of Practice, a Teams-based online community of FE library staff from across the UK, hosted by Jisc. It is an online space where you can share best practice, ask advice, develop your service, and attend a range of online events.
