Vocational Learning Resources April Newsletter

Welcome to the April issue of the Vocational Learning Resources newsletter. This month, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you about the support on offer from the FE and Skills Content Team. We have a reminder about the VLR free access period until 31st July 2021, our dedicated support site to help you get the most out of our services and a reminder about our Digital Learning Resources in FE Teaching Toolkit.

Vocational Learning Resources free access period

As a reminder, our Vocational Learning Resources are still open and freely available until 31st July 2021.

Our resources cover Construction, Digital and IT, Education and Childcare, Hairdressing and Health and Social Care and they include a wide range of innovative multimedia content such as videos, quizzes, guides and interactive activities.

Validated by FE teaching practitioners and curriculum mapped to qualifications across the UK, each service provides ready made resources which can be used as homework or in the classroom and have been designed to be inclusive and accessible with alternative formats such as subtitles, transcripts and text to speech.

Colleges need to be using Shibboleth or OpenAthens to access the resources and if you’re having any trouble logging into the resources, please contact us at content.feandskills@jisc.ac.uk

Vocational Learning Resource Support Site

Looking for more information and guidance on using our services?

Our Vocational Learning Resources have a dedicated support site with a range of guides, tips and promotional materials to help you get the most out of our content.

We cover topics such as accessibility guidance, how to link our services to your VLE, top tips and FAQs for teaching practitioners as well as top tips and FAQs for Library staff and a curriculum support page with information on how our services link to various qualifications.

Digital Learning Resources in FE Teaching Toolkit

If you’re a teaching practitioner looking for support on using digital learning content, our Digital Learning Resources in FE Teaching Toolkit is a great place to start.

This is a free toolkit aimed at helping teaching practitioners build confidence and understanding of digital learning resources and how to implement them effectively.

The toolkit is split into four different sections (Discovery, Planning, Delivery and Assessment, feedback and reflection) and covers topics such as building learners’ digital capabilities, how to build your online classroom, keeping students engaged whilst learning online and using and designing online assessments.

The content is non-linear so you can dip in and out and select the areas you’re most interested in and at the end of each section, there are useful links to further reading and related activities.
